'Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the town
There was scurrying and bustling of feet all around.
The trees were put up and decorated with care,
In hopes that the feeling soon would be there.
The children were anxious to be out of school,
To have snow days, presents, and everything cool.
The parents started thinking, more nervous than ever,
"If they are going to have presents, we must be quite clever."
The economy was down with no jobs to be found,
And there wasn't even snow dusting the ground.
The only signs of Christmas anywhere to be seen
Were the holly and tinsel and shows on TV.
But no one quite realized the depth of the matter
Was not about money or presents or chatter.
The heart of the issue, if you wish to see,
Is about a baby, a manger, and the love of family.
Christmas isn't about spending and receiving;
Its about loving and giving and even some sharing.
Giving of time and giving of patience
Is much more generous than the giving of presents.
This is my wish for this year's holiday:
That everyone would reach out and find a way
To help those in need with love and care
And find a way to show Jesus is there.
Let's take Christmas back from the glitz and the glam
And have a traditional day with turkey or ham.
Remember the true reason we have Christmas at all
Has nothing to do with decking the halls.
Merry Christmas!
